Deep in the heart of Dunkerque is a quaint shop whose floor to ceiling shelves jostle with fine French wines. The further you venture in, the more expensive the wines on offer are.
Whatever your budget, it is always a pleasurable experience to buy from this beautifully decorated shop, with light wood flooring and dark furniture – but this is no ordinary wine shop. Every Thursday and Saturday evenings this ‘cave a vins’ transforms into a gastronomic theatre courtesy of the owners Charlotte et Éric Quiret.
The whole concept of Les Vendanges Tardives wine shop and its bi-weekly transformation into Le Bouchon de Margaux restaurant, once just a dream of theirs, is now a unique dining experience.
You choose your meals and Éric will serve the best wine to accompany your meat dish or cheese. That means you get to taste several different wines in one evening, and each serving will come with a passionate commentary about the wine and its taste.
Éric wants the meal to be a voyage of discovery and wishes to surprise his diners with not just the wines he has chosen, but also a mystery dish.
The flamoyant Éric, who describes their oven as a piano that his wife Charlotte plays exquisitely, is delightfully attentive to all his guest. For this reason there are only seven tables and 24 covers. Anyone dining here will be entertained, feel his warmth and be treated as a VIP.
All of this costs 46 euros per person and includes several mises in bouches, a choice of main dishes (fish or meat) and a selection of desserts, plus an astonishingly generous selection of 5 wines.
An exceptional dining experience!
